I adore wearing dresses, and this is one of my favorite ways to winterize a sleeveless dress for the colder months. I get so sick of wearing jeans every single day when it’s cold, but dresses usually aren’t warm enough! The secret? Just pop a turtleneck underneath and add a pair of boots (and tights if it’s really cold)! I love playing with fun color combos, and since cobalt and navy are two of my absolute favorite colors to wear, this combo was a no-brainer.
How nicely does the blue in my outfit play off of the blue water and sky behind me?!
This weekend, Joe and I went to visit family in Maryland; this is their back yard! It’s so gorgeous there, and it has been so unseasonably warm that I could get away with wearing this without tights. (Don’t be fooled, though, I was absolutely freezing during this shoot; my hands felt like frozen claws.)
In two days we visited three different breweries, ate an insane amount of great food, and got to steal so many snuggles from their dog, Tucker. It was wonderful.
Let’s take a minute to appreciate the over the knee boot trend. They’re sexy and chic, but they’re warm! These ones are from DSW, because I’m not into splurging on trend pieces. I have a feeling this is a trend that won’t last forever, so no Stuart Weitzman boots for me, no matter how gorgeous they may be (also I don’t have $800 to spend on boots even if I wanted to).
I’m really into the gray color of these because they can be worn with both black and navy outfits. Trying not to wear black and navy together is basically the biggest struggle of my life, especially when it comes to shoes. I have so many pairs of black shoes and so much navy clothing! When I was traveling for a month over Christmas, these are the only nice boots I brought with me, and they paired well with everything!
I love this dress because it’s totally work appropriate, but I bought it in a petite so that it would be just a little bit shorter. The length makes it easier to wear casually as well as to the workplace! This was an awesome find from the mega-clearance rack at J. Crew Factory, but I’ll be sure to link some similar options.
Adding the turtleneck underneath gives this dress a whole new lease on life; the last time I wore it was in August with peep-toe wedges! There’s nothing I love more than a versatile piece that can be worn year-round.
How do you like to break out of a jeans rut in the winter?
