When you know you’re going to be out of the house for an extended period of time, there are some tote bag essentials that you’re going to need in order to survive until you get home and you can finally remove your bra for the day (best. feeling. ever.). These are the items that I carry to and from school or work every day; the items that keep from getting hangry, getting disorganized, or having a fashion disaster (I’m talking tampons, ladies). So here they are – my tote bag essentials.
One // A Big ol’ Tote Bag
I love my Cuyana tote so much because it’s HUGE but still looks really polished and classy, not like you’re carrying your entire house around in there (which you probably are). I have the zippered tote so all my stuff doesn’t roll everywhere during travel; when you’re cramming a tote under an airplane seat, you want to be able to close it securely. I also opted for the pebbled leather over the smooth leather so that it wouldn’t get scratched as easily. Most importantly, Cuyana does inexpensive monogramming! This bag has been by my side pretty much every single day for six months, and it spends a lot of time on the floor, so I’m pretty impressed that it still looks great.
Two // Paper Agenda
My agenda is from Day Designer, I talked about my love for it here; each day is divided down by the hour, so it’s really easy to schedule things. There’s also a place for daily to-do lists and gratitude, which I love; I’m trying to remember to use the gratitude section every day.
Three // Lunch
This girl is ballin’ on a budget. Sad but true: it is not realistic for me to buy lunch every day! I got myself some nice little tupperware and I bring a sandwich along with me. It’s not very glamorous, but a girl’s gotta eat!
Four // Laptop
I’m basically attached to it, so of course it comes with me everywhere. Don’t forget the charger!
Five // Emergency Kit
This is my secret weapon, and absolutely every lady should have these essentials in their bag at all times. You never know when a disaster could arise, so it is imperative to always be overly prepared for anything! It’s also really smart to keep all of these small items in a makeup bag together so that you don’t have a million things rolling around the bottom of your tote, otherwise you’ll be constantly digging around for stuff, which is not chic.
Band-aids: Because if you’re like me, pretty much every shoe you own hurts a different part of your foot.
Headphones: For the commute.
Advil: Always handy to have for a headache or period cramps
Listerine strips: I’m obsessed with Listerine strips. I love that the pack is so so tiny that you can bring it with you anywhere, it doesn’t rattle around like a tin of mints, and you don’t have to chew gum (not a good look in a meeting).
Granola bar: Because I get HANGRY.
Pens: Never get caught without a pen!
Floss: If you don’t have it, you’ll probably need it. Trust me.
Lip balm: Especially once it gets cold out, being without lip balm can get painful pretty quickly.
Hand cream: In the winter my hands get so dry that they crack and bleed, so I really have to stay on top of moisturizing!
Hand sanitizer: I’m a little bit of a germophobe because I hate being sick, so I always sanitize before eating.
Tampon: Even if it’s not your time of the month, always carry a spare tampon with you, some poor girl is sure to need one, and you’ll be a hero!
What are your tote bag essentials? Am I missing anything that you swear by?
