Betcha didn’t think that a big sweater and leggings could look polished and classy, did ya?
This is my second Thanksgiving outfit post for this year (did you see the first one?), and it’s all about how to be cozy and comfy on Thanksgiving – but still look put together. Duh, looking polished at all times is my goal in life, in case you haven’t figured that out by now.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I’ve got Michael Buble blaring, flannel shirts on repeat, and my Amazon cart full of Christmas decor. But before other people will think it’s socially acceptable for any of those things, we have to get through Thanksgiving dinner.
This is always a fun time to get dressed up in your fall finest and enjoy grandma’s homemade stuffing. This year, we’re spending Thanksgiving with Joe’s family, and obviously we’ll want to dress the part! My family keeps things pretty casual at the holidays, so I’ll be sharing a much more casual and cozy look for Thanksgiving on Friday – stay tuned!
Today, though, it’s all about the festive red and the warm textures that make the transition from fall to Christmas so much fun.
Cute fall outfits can sometimes feel predictable. flannel scarf? riding boots? quilted vest? We all know this tried and true formula, and if you’re trying to stand out from the crowd, you might be wishing that you could mix up your cute fall outfits with some different inspiration. Many of us attribute a preppy look to that typical Southern preppy style – think lots of Lilly Pulitzer, bright colors, and big accessories.
I draw my biggest style inspiration from more British preppy style – think classic boarding school looks and the royal family (Love the Parisians, too, but we’ll save that for another post). I love mixing luxurious textures, fabrics, and prints, and keeping to a more neutral color palette. Tweed, tartan, pleats, shiny gold buttons, and tailored silhouettes make me drool. In my opinion, it’s just a little more subtle and sophisticated, which is the look I love.
Today I’m sharing 5 essentials that you need to achieve classic British-inspired preppy style this fall. Look out, Kate Middleton! Read more
Monthly Melange is a new series I’m bringing to the blog to share everything that I’ve loved, found interesting, or that I think will enrich your life each month – a melange, or mix, of different things to explore. I hope you enjoy checking out these style picks, interesting articles, and other fun stuff from the past month!
By mid-winter, I typically start to get in a rut when it comes to putting together interesting outfits. For some reason I forget that I own anything other than jeans and plain sweaters, and lose the motivation to mix up my outfits with other items.
Today I’m going to discuss 4 ways to make a completely plain, seemingly boring sweater look more interesting. I’ll probably even revisit this post myself to get some inspiration once I start to hit that jeans-and-sweaters wall come January.
